American Idol’s Jessica Meuse Forced To Change Song List Before Elimination

American Idol switched up the game on contestants this week, changing their song choices last minute, eliminated contestant Jessica Meuse told Hollywood Life.

When the results were announced last night, it was the country rocker from Slapout, Alabama who suffered the must brutal cut of the season. Next week the top 3 return triumphantly to their home towns, for a performance and local fanfare.

During the performance show Wednesday, Meuse went “1-for-3,” according to MTV, failing to hit the mark with covers of Kelly Clarkson and Pink but ending strongly with Lady Gaga’s ‘You & I.’

For the independent musician who self-released a debut CD in 2011, song choice may be the thing. She told Hollywood Life this week was to be another opportunity for the American Idol contenders to show their songwriting and performance chops, but the plan was switched up by producers:

“[Pink’s ‘So What’] was a last-minute addition to the set list. Originally we were going to do originals, but then the network was like ‘No.’ The night before rehearsal they were like, ‘You guys can’t do originals. You have to pick another song.’ … It was a very short list [of approved songs] and it was very last minute so I had to learn that song.”

Despite the dramatic shift, Hollywood Life also reports Meuse enjoyed bringing her own style to the Pink anthem.

American Idol has not been easy on Jessica. Meuse suffered constant critiques from the judges, mostly on performance style. Despite appearing in the bottom two in recent weeks, fans continued to support her.

Meuse put on a brave face on social media just prior to Thursday’s broadcast, tweeting a smiling picture of her trademark pink-streaked locks and bright lipstick.

Upon her elimination Thursday, Meuse played her original, ‘Blue-Eyed Lie’ as her swan song. She had performed the piece during an earlier episode on this season’s Idol and as her audition song.

Despite breaking down upon her cut from the show, Jessica Meuse seems to be taking it all in stride. She has big plans for herself that don’t stop with her music career. Meuse was quoted after the Idol show Thursday:

“I want to do fashion. I want to do makeup and everything, because I do like makeup. I like art. I don’t know if there’s any profession I can do along tattoo designs or anything because I’d get into that. I want to get into production and everything behind the scenes in music.”

With that kind of attitude, small glitches like song choice won’t be enough to stop Jessica Meuse from continued success.
