‘American Horror Story’: Will ‘Freak Show’ Feature Sword Swallowing?

There has already been a lot of news released about American Horror Story‘s latest season, which is being called Freak Show. Most of it concerns the cast, which includes the return of Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Kathy Bates, and Gabourey Sidbe, as well as the addition of Michael Chiklis.

However, there is one thing that many American Horror Story fans have been questioning, and that is what will be seen in the latest season. It is known that it will be set in the 1950s and will revolve around a freak show in Jupiter, Florida. But what about those daring and mesmerizing stunts that performers did? Creator Ryan Murphy hasn’t gone into detail, but one professional sword swallower said that his stunt would be a tricky one for a member of the cast to pull off.

Dan Meyer recently spoke to International Business Times about the dangers of sword swallowing and said that if the creators of American Horror Story wanted to pull it off, they would have to get someone who has been doing it for years.

For Meyer, it took “almost 13,000 unsuccessful attempts” before he was able to swallow his first sword. He doubts that any of the American Horror Story cast members could pull it off successfully in the amount of time they are given.

“It took me four years, practicing 10 to 12 times a day, every day,” he said.

Meyer considers himself a “self-made” freak, which usually consists of the sword swallowers, fire eaters, and those who do other stunts.

“[We’re] proud to do something outside the norm, outside the ordinary,” he added.

Meyer said that he has never seen American Horror Story, and he isn’t attached to Freak Show. But if Murphy and others want him to get involved, he would love to do it.

And while American Horror Story fans will have to wait until Murphy and crew reveal more plot details, another International Business Times report lists what acts were used in real freak shows. Some of the acts included in the list were conjoined or Siamese twins and a bearded lady.

A previous report from The Inquisitr stated that Bassett had blurted out that she wasn’t sure if she would be playing a “Siamese twin or a bearded lady” in the new season of American Horror Story. It hasn’t been confirmed if she will be playing one or the other, or if she will be playing a completely different character altogether.

No official premiere date has been given, but American Horror Story: Freak Show is expected to begin in October.
