Avril Lavigne’s Latest Album Officially Certified Gold In China [Photo]

Avril Lavigne is currently a hot commodity in China.

The singer’s recent release, the aptly-titled Avril Lavigne, recently moved enough copies in the country to qualify for Gold Certification. According to a Lavigne fan page on Facebook, the record has sold over 10,000 copies in China.

While touring the region in support of the album, Avril received a special honor for her musical efforts. Although 10,000 may not seem like a lot of copies to fans in the US — RIAA Gold Certification requires 500,000 purchases — selling that many units in China is definitely an accomplishment.

In addition receiving the certification in China, Avril Lavigne’s latest studio release also went Gold in Canada and Japan. In fact, the singer added a few extra tracks to the Japanese release of Avril Lavigne since fans in the country embraced her career early on. Unfortunately, the album hasn’t reached this milestone in the United States just yet.

Although selling 10,000 copies of her album definitely gave Lavigne a reason to celebrate, apparently a recent concert in China was a source of stress for the Canadian rocker. The Inquisitr previously reported that Avril bolted off-stage in the middle of her tune “I’m With You” after something gave her the creeps.

However, it’s unclear what caused Lavigne to run away in horror during the performance. The Huffington Post speculates that a fan may have attempted to climb onto the stage during her set. While Avril Lavigne hasn’t officially addressed the situation as of this writing, one or two snarky folks on Twitter definitely have a few theories about the incident.

If you haven’t seen the video in question, then take a look at the clip embedded below. The incident occurs around the 3:54 mark.

Once Avril Lavigne wraps up her tour of Asia, she’ll take some time out of her busy schedule to play for fans in Brazil. The singer recently confirmed on Twitter that she’s headed to the area later this year.
