Fans can watch the Team USA vs. Slovenia hockey match and see if the Americans are able to follow up their heart-stopping victory over Russia with another strong performance.
On Saturday the Americans took eight rounds in the shootout to defeat Russia, gaining a second life after a disallowed goal with less than five minutes remaining and taking advantage.
The game saw St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie storm on the national scene, scoring four times during the shootout to keep the pressure on the Russians. Under Olympic rules, any player may take a shot in the shootout after the three initial shooters, so American coach Dan Bylsma turned to Oshie again and again.
Finally, in the eighth round Oshie put a shot between the legs of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to give America the 3-2 victory.
“I was just thinking of something else I could do, trying to keep him guessing,” said Oshie, the St. Louis Blues forward. “Had to go back to the same move a couple times, but I was glad it ended when it did. I was running out of moves there.”
The Team USA matchup against Slovenia is scheduled for 7:30 am ET on Sunday, the second game in two days for the Americans. After Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick won two games for the Americans, many expect Bylsma to insert Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller — the 2010 Vancouver Olympics MVP — in net against the more lightly regarded Slovenia.
The game is being broadcast live on NBC Sports Network, and also available for streaming video through NBC.
