Jennifer Aniston is one of several famous faces who topped this year’s overpaid actors list.
The folks over at Forbes magazine have assembled their list of celebrities who didn’t earn their paychecks over the course of 2013. Although Aniston wasn’t the worst offender in the bunch, a handful of lackluster cinematic endeavors didn’t do her any favors.
Here’s how the Forbes determines its Most Overpaid Actors: A handful of folks over at the publication take a look at what the studios pay these actors and actresses for their work. After looking over the last three motion pictures as of June 1, 2013, the math wizards determine the return on investment based upon expenses, budgets, and salaries.
Unfortunately for Jennifer Aniston, her performance at the box office didn’t really match up with the hefty paychecks she commands. According to reports, the former Friends star can take home a whopping $5 million per comedy. The publication determined that the actress makes $10.60 for every dollar she’s paid.
The Daily Beast explained earlier this year:
“Jennifer Aniston is the most peculiar of A-list celebrities. She’s a movie star with no star power. Few female celebrities are as recognizable — or on as many magazine covers — as Aniston. But when it comes to selling tickets at the box office, Aniston, for all her apparent popularity, seems remarkably… unpopular.”
Since Aniston is listed as number eight on the annual list, there are seven other Hollywood A-lists who aren’t pulling their cinematic weight these days. Although he had a somewhat better year thanks to Grown Up 2, former Saturday Night Live cast member Adam Sandler found his name on the Forbes list yet again.
Sandler reportedly earns $3.40 for every one dollar on his sizable paychecks. The publication points out that the actor should fair better next year because of the Grown Ups sequel. Sadly, his partner in crime Kevin James also made the list this year. The King of Queens alum generates $6.10 for every dollar he’s paid.
Joining Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler, and Kevin James on this year’s list are Katherine Heigl, Reese Witherspoon, Nicolas Cage, Steve Carell, Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, and Elysium star Matt Damon. Although some of these folks could rebound next year, others will likely find themselves on the list in 2014.
Fortunately for Jennifer Aniston, she has Horrible Bosses 2 and the Peter Bogdanovich comedy Squirrels to the Nuts looming on the horizon. Are you surprised that the actress found herself on the Forbes Most Overpaid Actors list this year?
