Bill Rancic Running In New York City Marathon

Bill Rancic is running a marathon this weekend for the first time in more than 10 years. Rancic last ran a 26-mile course at the age of 30, when he wasn’t married, didn’t have kids, and wasn’t as busy with work as he is now.

But those reasons didn’t keep the reality star from signing up for the New York City Marathon, where he will start in last place on Sunday. Rancic spoke with CBS News about why he signed up for the grueling race, explaining, “It was an opportunity to raise money for a good charity, something that’s near and dear to our heart.”

For every person that Rancic passed on Sunday, Timex will donate $1 to Fab-U-Wish, a breast cancer charity started by his wife, Giuliana Rancic, who survived the disease.

Beyond the good cause, the 42-year-old also sees the NYC Marathon as a challenge. He explained, “I think every guy that hits his 40s has a little bit of a wake-up call and wants to just keep things real, as they say, and just to push yourself.”

Bill Rancic hopes to pass 25,000 people during the race, thus earning $25,000 for his wife’s charity. While he has a goal of the number of people to pass, Bill confessed he isn’t sure how long it will take him to run the 26-mile course. He stated, “A month ago I said I wanted to come in at 4 [hours], but now, I don’t know.” It’s gonna be touch and go.”

Rancic told The Stir that he didn’t have to start dead last. Instead, it was his friends at Timex who came up with the idea. There are 48,000 runners in the marathon, making the prospect of starting last a little daunting. However, the reality star isn’t one to give up easily. He admitted to being a little nervous about going off the starting blocks last, but that won’t keep him from starting.
