William Fichtner Says ‘TMNT’ Reboot Isn’t A ‘Bouncy Cartoon’ Movie

Shortly after revealing that Bebop and Rocksteady won’t appear in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, star William Fichtner dropped even more details about the flick.

The acclaimed character actor was tapped earlier this year to portray the villainous Shredder in the Michael Bay-produced project. During a recent interview with Flicks and the City, the actor gave fans of the mutant superheroes even more information to process while they’re waiting for the movie to arrive on the big screen.

During his interview with the website, William Fichtner said fans will be completely surprised by the TMNT reboot. Although he referred to the animated shows are “bouncy cartoon” affairs, the Elysium star said fans should anticipate something a little different from director Jonathan Liebesman’s movie.

“That’s not this movie… It’s not like any Mutant Ninja Turtles thing you’ve ever seen before. It’s freaky, they’re cool, and they’re mutants and they look awesome. It’s tough and it’s going to be really, really great,” William Fichtner explained during his interview.

In addition to teasing what fans can expect from the flick itself, the actor discussed his turn as Shredder in the flick. Although the character is of Japanese descent, things are changing a bit for the TMNT reboot. Instead of Oroku Saki, William Fichtner portrays a guy named Eric Sachs.

The actor explained:

“I can’t give away too much in the story but I can tell you that who Shredder is in the telling of this Turtles is unlike any telling of the story before. His conenction and relationship to the turtles is a bit surprising and for an actor playing it, the backstory, which comes out in this film, is really intriuging…We made some changes while filming that I thought are just awesome.”

Fichtner also suggested that the heroes could appear in a handful of sequels in the next few years. Of course, this really all depends on how well the movie does when it hits theaters.

The Inquisitr previously reported that William Fichtner confirmed fan favorites Bebop and Rocksteady won’t appear in the reboot. Although the characters were prominent in the 90s TMNT cartoon series, the villains are absent from this particular cinematic endeavor.

In addition to the Armageddon star, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film stars Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Will Arnett, and Danny Woodburn. The movie is presently slated to arrive in theaters on August 8, 2014.
