A TV show based on director Ruben Fleischer’s 2009 horror-comedy Zombieland is reportedly starting to take shape over at CBS.

Although the film was a hit at the US box office when it opened nearly three years ago, the filmmaker recently stated that a sequel probably wouldn’t happened. According to Worst Previews , the lack of a big screen follow-up could have something to do with the television series that’s currently in the works.

Instead of heading back to theaters for another adventure, four major characters from the motion picture could make the jump to the small screen. However, fans of the movie shouldn’t expect Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, or Abigail Breslin to reprise their respective roles. CBS is currently looking for replacements.

The folks at io9 managed to get their hands on a couple of pages from the script that are being used for casting purposes. The website explained that the characters will be reworked a bit for their television debuts.

Given the popularity of such horror-based shows as The Walking Dead and American Horror Story , it’s not surprising that CBS is looking for a way to cash in on the current craze. Executives are hoping that fans of Zombieland will tune in to see the ongoing adventures of their favorite characters.

While promoting his latest movie Gangster Squad , director Ruben Fleischer told Collider that a sequel to his 2009 hit wasn’t going to happen.

He explained:

“There’s no immediate plans to make the movie. There’s no script. So the likelihood of it happening is slim. But I would not wanna put a nail in that coffin. The only thing I could really say is that the threat to our heroes wasn’t only zombies. They encounter other people that [are] all jockeying for positions.”

It’s currently unknown when the half-hour version of Zombieland will find its way onto the CBS line-up. Are you looking forward to the proposed TV show?
