Yahoo7 , the Australian version of Yahoo, is to cut 10% of its workforce.

News reports that workers are expected to be told of the cuts this afternoon. 20 positions will go, but it isn’t clear which positions were facing the axe.

Yahoo7 is a joint venture between Yahoo in the United States, and the Seven Network in Australia. The decision to cut jobs is independent of Yahoo’s previous announcement to cut 10% of its global workforce. Prior to Yahoo7, the Seven Network ran a joint portal with AOL called AOL7.

Yahoo has had a difficult time in Australia, where Google has long held the dominant position in the market (more so and for longer than in the United States), with some reports stating that Google has close to 90% market share.

Update: Yahoo7 has confirmed the job cuts, but not the number. The staffing changes are said to be effective immediately.
