WWE Rumors: Backstage Update On When John Cena Will Win His Next WWE World Title

John Cena has been battling with, and for, the United States Title for the majority of this year, and he’s still going after it. At WWE Night of Champions , Cena will take on Seth Rollins and look to win back the title he had defended so often during the summer. Cena is one WWE World Title win away from tying Ric Flair, but when will that happen?

According to 4FW Online , John Cena is going to have another run with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but it won’t be coming anytime soon. As of now, the backstage talk is that he won’t actually get it until 2016.

Cena had new merchandise come out right before SummerSlam that showcased him being a 15x world champion. This led many to believe that he wouldn’t end up winning the WWE Title at the event, because it would make the merchandise obsolete.

Obviously, that’s how it worked out.

Now, he is still one world title capture behind the legendary Ric Flair , and rumor has it he won’t tie the “Nature Boy” until next year. As for breaking Flair’s record, that may still be at least a year or more away. Fansided recently reported that Flair is alright with his record being broken.

“I’d be thrilled if John Cena tied my record and surpassed it. I think the world of John and he has been the flagship for the company for a long time and if John were to catch that title again and then he can surpass the record, I would be very proud of him.”

The thing fans have to realize is that Flair states his number is actually much higher than 16. Apparently, WWE only recognizes 16 of his world title reigns, but the legend says he has been a world champion on 21 different occasions.

Maybe this is why he’s alright with John Cena breaking the “record” of 16.

John Cena is 38-years-old, but he’s still competing and performing at a very high level. He’s far from retirement, unless he just decides he is ready to stop and be done. If Cena does win his next WWE World Title some time in 2016, you can be sure that record of 16 will be broken in 2016 or 2017.

WWE is going to keep John Cena around, even if half the audience can’t stand him. Why wouldn’t they? He’s one of their most successful, profitable, and yes, popular, superstars in history. Another few WWE World Title wins are in his future, and Ric Flair’s record of 16 or 21 world title reigns are in jeopardy.
