When The Undertaker left his hat, coat, and gloves in the ring after his WrestleMania 33 loss to Roman Reigns, we all thought that the Deadman’s WWE career was over. When The Undertaker kissed his wife and saluted the WrestleMania crowd before disappearing in clouds of smoke, it seemed that we had seen the last of the man who made WrestleMania his own. Age and the rigors of over 25 years in the ring had finally taken their toll on The Undertaker.
It had been rumored that Mark Callaway, who plays The Undertaker, needed a hip replacement and that his retirement was inevitable. As reported by the Inquisitr recently, rumors have been circulating for months suggesting that The Undertaker was not finished and that he could return to challenge John Cena at WrestleMania 34 .
When wrestling insider Jim Ross was quizzed during a question and answer session on his website , Ross told fans that The Undertaker wasn’t retired until The Deadman says so.
“This Undertaker matter is really very simple until he says that he’s officially finished then he isn’t. Case closed.”
Now reports are suggesting that The Undertaker is still under contract to the WWE and that his contract still has four years to run. The Daily Mirror claims that the “Taker of Souls” is earning $1.75 million from that contract. Of course, the Mirror does not claim to know the exact details of The Undertaker’s contract, nor do they claim that it means a return to the ring for the Deadman.
As reported by the Sun , the WWE did announce this week that fans would be able to meet The Undertaker at the Ace Comic-Con in Uniondale, New York, on December 8.
This could well mean that The Undertaker will play an important role as an ambassador for the WWE network. As the WWE’s most popular wrestler, the Taker would be the ideal person to promote the network. Imagine The Undertaker as a ring announcer or guest referee for a match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. The promos would be epic.
It seems that The Undertaker’s WWE career might not be over, and it would make sense for Vince McMahon to involve him in whatever capacity he can. We may not see The Undertaker in another competitive match, but we could still see the wrestling legend dishing out punishment during promos.
