Charlie Sheen’s message to manhunted LA fugitive and former cop Christopher Dorner yesterday made headlines, as the wanted man apparently shouted out the somewhat unstable star in his “manifesto.”
Charlie Sheen is often known for rebuffing authority, and the Anger Management star was kind in his offer to mediate with Dorner about the ongoing situation. (To recap, Dorner is said to have shot a fellow officer, as well as the daughter and fiancee of another officer — leaving behind a manifesto which threatened to “bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty, and in which Dorner allegedly said he “never had the opportunity to have a family” so he planes to “[terminate] yours.”)
But Dorner also mentioned Sheen , and Sheen responded:
“You mentioned me in your manifesto, so thank you for your kind words. I am urging you to call me. Let’s figure out together how to end this thing.”
A Charlie Sheen “insider” reportedly says his pal was right to at least acknowledge the mention and try to help:
“He felt he should respond — and in a way that might be helpful … It would have been callous if he didn’t do anything.”
However, another nameless “insider,” identified by the Chicago Sun-Times only as a “TV producer” and Charlie Sheen fan, says that the move comes off as a bit publicity-whoring and adds:
“This is a major police investigation and Charlie only comes across as someone trying to capitalize on it. This is not the kind of thing you should turn into a sensationalized publicity stunt … Just because you are mentioned in that manifesto doesn’t mean you have to speak up … It’s simply a terrible tragedy, and it doesn’t help Charlie to get involved.”
