Actor Val Kilmer shared his thoughts on a Top Gun sequel, deceased director Tony Scott, and other things during a recent interview, but it was hit pitch for a sequel to Michael Mann’s crime classic Heat that really got our attention.
During an appearance on Larry King’s Hulu program, Larry King Now , the 53-year-old actor shared his pitch for a sequel to Mann’s 1995 crime thriller.
“Here’s my pitch,” Kilmer said. “You remember Natalie Portman in it? She’s Pacino’s adopted daughter, so she comes home and says, ‘Daddy, daddy, I want you to meet my fiancé.’ And it’s me. He’s retired and I come to Chicago where he’s retired back to and I’m going to torture him, and then I’m going to kill him.”
I hope it’s not just me, but that sounds like the worst idea ever.
He also talked a bit about the late Tony Scott’s plans for a Top Gun sequel. Kilmer played the role of “Iceman” in the 1986 original.
“I think it wouldn’t be that difficult to maintain the spirit of it,” he said.
He continued, heaping plaudits on Scott as a director.
“Tony was the most generous, positive director I’ve ever worked for in film,” he said. “He’s not known as an actor’s director because he’s such a vivid stylist with the camera & but he really loved acting and getting the shot.”
Kilmer has remained open about reprising his role if a Top Gun sequel is ever made. Tom Cruise was also reportedly in talks to reprise his role as “Maverick,” but in more of a supporting capacity.
Hopefully, Hollywood execs don’t get their hands on Kilmer’s pitch for Heat 2 . Something tells me they’d greenlight it after snorting a mountain of cocaine.
