Doctor Who number five, the broccoli-sporting Peter Davison, is still doing his Doctor Who thing.
Wales Online is reporting that Davison, who played the fifth reincarnation in Doctor Who from 1981 to 1984, is currently doing a press tour for the upcoming Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular , celebrating the music of Murray Gold, who is responsible for most of the show’s music in the last ten years. While doing a press junket, Davison was asked who was his favorite Doctor. His response was the second Doctor, Patrick Troughton.
“I watched both William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton but I think he (Troughton) had the hardest job,” Davison says.
“If Patrick hadn’t done his job as well as he did, we wouldn’t be where we are now. For with him they decided to invent the idea of regeneration. Before his first episode I remember thinking, ‘I’m going to hate this’ but he won me over.”
“He brought so much that was new to it, a vulnerability. He had the hardest job but did it so well and, of course, we owe him an enormous debt,” says Davison.
Then, Davison adds, as a form of peace offering, “I think I might also have to mention the 10th Doctor.”
The tenth Doctor, of course, is David Tennant, who happens to be married to Georgia Moffett, the daughter of Peter Davison. Moffett and Tennant performed in an episode of Doctor Who , The Doctor’s Daughter , where she played the artifically created Jenny.
According to Digital Spy , Davison is now readying himself to emcee the new Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular , a 13-date live show highlighting and celebrating the music of composer Murray Gold, who has been with the show for the past ten years. The live show brings the music to the forefront for the fans to enjoy. However, Davison says the music is just part of the live show.
“We have various creatures from Doctor Who wandering around the auditorium – and sneaking up on people when they least expect it. At one point, the Daleks try to take over the show – and I have to come on and save the day with a cup of tea!”
“So it’s a fun thing – and I come in and introduce the various pieces of music, with a little anecdote or two!”
Davison is also doing more episodes of Doctor Who — on audio as the Doctor for Big Finish Productions . It’s safe to say that you can take the actor out of the role, but the actor doesn’t quite leave it entirely.
