Mark Burnett’s epic miniseries The Bible will reportedly be released in theaters.

The History Channel debuted The Bible earlier this year to record ratings. From executive producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, The Bible is an epic 10-part series that adapts the Christian holy book’s narrative. The synopsis is as follows:

“[ The Bible is] an epic 10-part miniseries retelling stories from the Scriptures for a whole new generation. Breathtaking in scope and scale, The Bible features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation.”

Details are scarce, and you get the feeling that pen hasn’t exactly been put to paper on this one at all just yet. But this report comes from Deadline, and they’re usually pretty right about this stuff , so here we are.

In any case, the early word is that the seven-and-a-half hour narrative will be brought down to about three-hours for its big screen debut . There is currently no word on who will distribute the film or how it will be distributed at all: In select theaters, for a one-day event, or for general release.

Given that The Bible brought in 13.1 million viewers and was made immediately available on DVD and Blu-ray after it aired, it’s likely that it will make a limited release.

Did you watch The Bible ? What do you think of the plans to bring it to the big screen? Would you pay to go and see a three-hour version of the nearly eight-hour epic? Lastly, do you think they’ll cut “President Obama” out of the theatrical version? Sound off!
