Tagg Romney To Obama: ‘Sorry For Wanting To Punch You’

One of the most heated reactions to President Obama’s second debate win was from Mitt Romney’s own son, Tagg, who said that he wanted to punch the POTUS for how rude he was to his GOP opponent. Now, Romney the younger has apologized for that reaction.

The atmosphere on stage following the third and final presidential debate Monday seemed strange to many viewers and media outlets. After a heated and contentious debate season, the Obamas and Romneys all appeared to get along quite well. They laughed, shook hands, and probably met at Ruby Tuesdays for drinks afterwards.

The strangest moment was when Romney’s eldest of five sons, Tagg, approached President Obama, shook his hand, and shared a laugh with him. Following the second presidential debate, which most media outlets agree was a victory for the president, 42-year-old Tagg infamously said:

“Uh, you know, uh, well, jump out of your seat, and you want to rush down there to the debate stage and take a swing at him. But you know you can’t do that, because um, well first because there’s a lot of Secret Service between you and him…”

Tagg made these comments during an interview with North Carolina radio host Bill LuMaye, reports Yahoo News .

Tagg continued, “but also because this is the nature of the process. They’re going to do everything they can do to try to make my dad into someone he’s not. We signed up for it. We’ve gotta kinda sit there and take our punches and then send them right back the other way.”

Now, following Monday’s debate, sources tell ABC that the on-stage meet-up was actually reconciliation and mea culpa on the part of Tagg. He is said to have apologized for the remark, and Obama reportedly accepted the apology without hesitation.

Tagg’s younger brother, 37-year-old Josh, reassured the media that he has personally been punched by Tagg a dozen times, and that the president has nothing to worry about.

What do you think of Tagg Romney’s apology to President Obama? Was it the right thing to do?
