A Swedish porn star caught the public’s imagination in a way you wouldn’t necessarily expect, when she jumped into a bullfighting ring to comfort a dying bull.
Amina Axelsson is a Swedish stripper living in Spain. And in case you’re wondering what a porn star was doing at a bullfight in the first place, she’s also an animal rights activist for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
The Mirror reports that 41-year-old Amina jumped into the ring at the almost empty La Malagueta arena in Malaga to give comfort to the seriously injured bull.
Somewhat bizarrely, the crowd cheered on Amina as she attempted to get close to the suffering beast, but the Swedish stripper’s efforts were thwarted as she was led away by matadors.
Amina who has previously painted herself with fake animal blood and strutted in all her naked glory through Pamplona to protest against bullfighting, was later arrested for her stunt, but the self-proclaimed “adult model” said that’s fine because it won’t stop her from standing up for what she believes in.
“It was a symbolic act to show that we are thinking about the bull. I was nervous about doing it. But more nervous about police than the bull. They can prosecute or fine me, be my guest. I’m still going to stand up for what I believe in.”
Amina is not the first woman to jump into a bullring, although she may be the first Swedish porn star. In August of this year, 38-year-old Virginia Ruiz jumped into the Malage fighting pit to save a tortured bull from further suffering.
Ruiz was hauled from the ring for her actions and spat upon and kicked by matadors.
The Inquisitr reported that Ruiz believes she represent the majority of Spanish people who are ashamed of the country’s traditional sport.
“I represent the majority of Spanish people, who are ashamed to be associated with this appalling cruelty. It doesn’t represent us. There is more to Spain than bullfighting. Bulls feel pain and suffer, just as humans do. I couldn’t leave him to die alone.
“I could hear him (the bull) crying in pain and jumped down, walked across the ring to where he lay dying. He looked at me and I believe he felt my energy. I wanted to give him love before he left this earth.”
Spanish film director Miguel Angel Rolland is also against bullfighting but fears it is a tradition far too ingrained in his country for it to ever stop.
“During the 1,868 festivals involving bulls last year, more than 11,000 were tortured and killed It hurts me to say it but the Spanish are a savage, insensitive and ignorant people.
“We are a violent nation. My father is a big bullfight aficionado. He used to take us to the fiestas until I was old enough to say no.
“In Spain about 200 animals are killed every day for entertainment. That’s eight terrible deaths every hour.”
Obviously, it will take more than a Swedish porn star to stop this sort of show, but should bullfighting be stopped in the first place?
