Horror maestro Stephen King has never shied away from sharing his feelings about literature, movies, and music. During a recent interview, the writer set his sights on Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games .
Although he might have a problem with the young adult novel at the moment, he wasn’t always so hard on the adventures of Katniss Everdeen. According to Us Weekly , King’s review of the popular book was originally very positive .
“Since this is the first novel of a projected trilogy, it seems to me that the essential question is whether readers will care enough to stick around and find out what comes next for Katniss. I know I will,” Stephen King wrote in his Entertainment Weekly review back in 2008.
However, the horror author told a different tale during his chat with the Guardian . According to King, he doesn’t really feel the need to read the rest of the books in the Hunger Games series. Apparently he’s no longer smitten with the story.
“I read ‘The Hunger Games’ and didn’t feel an urge to go on. It’s not unlike ‘The Running Man,’ which is about a game where people are actually killed and people are watching a satire on reality TV,” he told the publication.
Stephen King also had a few choice words for E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey . Judging from his comments, the writer isn’t impressed with that effort either.
“They call it mommy porn, but it’s not really mommy porn. It is highly charged, sexually driven fiction for women who are, say, between 18 and 25,” he said.
Stephen King is busy promoting his latest literary effort Doctor Sleep . The novel serves as a sequel to his beloved 1977 endeavor The Shining . The long-awaited follow-up finally hit retail shevles on Tuesday (September 24) and has received mostly positive reviews.
