The Star Wars Facebook page was busy responding to a sexist Captain Phasma comment, which complained that the gear actress Gwendoline Christie uses doesn’t identify her as a female. Seriously?
Yes, apparently a fan didn’t like to see such heavy armor on new The Force Awakens character, Captain Phasma, who doesn’t look like a girl at all under the bulky costume. Even though more fans were super excited when the Star Wars Facebook page posted a drawing of the mysterious Captain Phasma, one wasn’t on board.
“Not to be sexist, but’s really hard to tell that’s female armor for me.” the follower wrote.
We’re not talking Wonder Woman here, it’s a Star Wars villain, and whether it’s male or female, it’s irrelevant in this day and age.
“It’s armor. On a woman. It doesn’t have to look feminine,” the Facebook page responded.
Even though the comment has now been deleted, the Internet managed to get screenshots and it has become a hot topic of discussion.

Now Star Wars fans are having their say, not only on the Facebook page, but on Twitter, and the verdict is in. Most people don’t really care the gender of the actor portraying Captain Phasma, and they love that Gwendoline Christie is a great villain in The Force Awakens .

As you can see the Star Wars Facebook comment even started a new hashtag, #NotToBeSexistBut, which will surely take on a life of its own. Fans are pretty opinionated about this topic, and seem perfectly okay to have strong female characters.
After all, the Star Wars franchise has been criticized for not having enough main female characters. Other than the very female Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in the original trilogy and Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) in the prequels, the rest of the females are secondary to the plot.
Besides, female or male, wouldn’t you say Captain Phasma looks amazing and will probably give Darth Vader a run for his money?
