Stacey Dash, star of the 1995 feature film Clueless is the latest Hollywood personality to make waves across the industry by joining Fox News. According to Inside TV , Dash will provide cultural analysis and commentary across various daytime and prime time programs.
Formerly a supporter of President Obama, Stacey Dash first expressed support for presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012 . From that point, she hasn’t looked back.
“I tweeted my opinion and when I woke up the next morning, my life had changed,” the 47-year-old actress told Elle . “And since then, anything I say has been newsworthy. I say something and then it’s newsworthy.”
As noted by The Inquisitr , both Dash and Fox News are mutually looking forward to the new arrangement.
“Stacey is an engaging conversationalist whose distinctive viewpoints amongst her Hollywood peers have spawned national debates,” said Bill Shine, the network’s exec VP of programming.
In an industry where conservative viewpoints expressed publicly have typically been considered taboo or a quick way to end one’s career for aspiring actors and actresses, Dash joins a growing list of Hollywood “who’s who” to make the jump over to the conservative side of the aisle. Dash’s jump to Fox News follows on the heels of last summer’s announcement that Elizabeth Hasselbeck would be leaving The View in favor of joining Fox’s morning time news program Fox and Friends .
Other well-known celebrities that bill themselves as dedicated Republicans (The Ten Most Surprising Republican Celebrities) include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Adam Sandler, Jessica Simpson, and a smattering of other equally famous stars that until recently have kept their political affiliation on the “down low.”
The recent movement from the left to the right side of the aisle has got to have one asking why? The answer may not be as elusive as we might imagine. With Rasmussen showing President Obama currently tracking at a 50 percent disapproval rating as of today and Real Clear Politics showing President Bush tracking 19 points above President Obama at the same point during his term, Stacey Dash and other celebrities finally getting the gumption to move over to the right side of the political spectrum may just be a reflection of larger trend of everyone else realizing that the scandal-plagued Obama Administration is simply a sinking ship and the time has come to jump overboard in search of fare waters somewhere else. After all, celebrities are voters too, and scandals like Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the Bundy Ranch standoff, the IRS targeting scandal, and the recent VA scandal among others can’t help but deteriorate support for what is increasingly being viewed by the American public as a lawless administration.
Stacey Dash decided to make her move to the right back in 2012 and it will be interesting to see if the trend of celebrities switching political ranks from left to right continues to accelerate in the near future.
