Shopping mall lanes have overtaken the Meadowhall Centre in Sheffield, following a complaint letter from 10-year-old Chloe Nash-Lowe in the United Kingdom.
Like any of us who’ve ever gotten annoyed by a person (or group of people) oblivious to the fact that there’s a world that exists outside their dome of awareness, Chloe got ticked at the slow pokes responsible for walking slow and taking up too much space.
She voiced her disapproval in a letter to Meadowhall management, stating that she was angered by “slow walkers” holding her up adding that she was “incredibly disappointed” by a recent experience , Metro UK reported.
Elle featured more of the letter :
“You should stop people walking slow as people are in a rush for work and this could cause people being late. It is dangerous because if someone bumped into you that person will fall over.”
“Will you ever tell people not to walk so slow? If you do this for me I will be delighted — please do it.”
As a result of Chloe’s outburst, Meadowhall installed two shopping mall lanes (marked “Fast Lane” and “Slow Lane” in hopes that the tortoises among them would get the point and move over).
Meadowhall director Darren Pearce said he wanted to “thank Chloe for taking the time to write in and share her views with us – we love to hear feedback from our younger shoppers.”
He added: “The Meadowhall team liked Chloe’s idea so much that we have decided to trial an overtaking lane for fast walkers on the malls — helping them to get where they want to be on time.”
While children do need to learn the virtues of patience, we’ve been stuck behind enough inconsiderate people to see the merits of her idea.
You know who they are.
Groups who form a flying wedge to ensure no one can get around them who’s coming the opposite direction; friends who crowd the middle of a busy aisle to catch up on old times; teenagers who congregate in groups of 12; and hapless parents who allow their two-year-olds to run out of a store or wander off into a line of foot traffic.
Shopping malls are rank with this type of social misbehavior. Here’s hoping a 10-year-old can wake everyone up to the fact.
After all, these hangouts aren’t exactly on the rise in popularity and need all the help they can get just to stay alive.
(And while we’re at it, can we ban slow drivers , too?)
