Russian Warships ‘Special Cargo’ In Syria Stokes Fear Of World War 3

Russian warships in Syria are delivering a “special cargo” and everyone is guessing why Russia’s President Putin would have sent the Russian warships in the first place.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the Russian warships were sent to Syria in only a week after Russia disengaged from Syria .

The Russian warships are officially claimed to be there to help evacuate Russian civilians from Russia’s military base in Syria. Tartus is the only remaining Russian Navy port base still standing outside of Russia since the end of the Cold War.

The Russian warship Nikolai Filchenkov is being given a special mission according to a source from the Saint Petersburg-based central naval command. This Russian warship’s special cargo will be picked up after it leaves the Ukrainian port city of Sevastopol.

The exact nature of the Russian warships’ special cargo is unknown:

“The ship will make call in Novorossiisk, where it will take on board special cargo and set off for the designated area of its combat duty in the eastern Mediterranean.”

An intel report on Syria from the United States states the evidence claiming the Assad regime used chemical weapons on its own civilians. Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the United States’ proof isn’t concrete, and apparently Syrian rebels have used chemical weapons as well.

Putin warned President Obama that an attack from the United States on Syria would be an act of “aggression.” While the Russian warships are unlikely to attack the five US Arleigh Burke-class destroyers in Syria, if a cruise missile is launched it’s possible the Syrian government would receive early warning. Some people are worried the Russian warships in Syria could trigger World War 3 .
