Richard Gere, the 64-year-old Hollywood icon,who got divorced from Carey Lowell, his wife of 11 years, back in September, is apparently now dating Top Chef Hostess-with-the-mostest, Padma Lakshmi.
An inside source revealed to the New York Post’s Page Six that Gere is very much back on the dating scene following his divorce and has set his sights on Lakshmi.
“They have been quietly spending some time together. It is all very new and recent, and happened while he has been filming in New York,” the source said.
Another source, who spoke anonymously to Us Magazine , said “It started very recently and quietly. It’s very new. I wouldn’t even go as far as calling them a couple.”
“They are dating. It’s the first time Padma has dated anyone since Teddy [Forstmann], and it’s something she’s been approaching very, very delicately. They’re just getting to know each other. They’re just having fun.”
Padma Laskshmi, who is a former model, was married to the controversial author, Salman Rushdie, for three years, with their marriage ending in 2007. She also dated billionaire Teddy Forstmann until he died in 2011 aged 71.
As well as those relationships Lakshmi also has a daughter, aged three, called Krishna Thea Lakshmi-Dell , from Adam Dell, the brother of Michael Dell, of Dell computers. Richard Gere himself also has a child from his previous marriage, Homer, who is now 14.
It was also widely reported in the media at the time that Gere and Lowell had been living apart for a long while before they officially announced their divorce. Gere was also previously married to Cindy Crawford for four years.
With all the divorces in Hollywood, one wonders why celebrities choose to walk down the aisle time and time again, just to split up with hefty lawyers bills a few years later. Maybe Richard Gere and Padma Lakshmi will break the mold, and remain together for many happy years to come.
