A passenger wearing a Princess Bride T-shirt caused some unexpected distress during a recent flight to New Zealand.
Wynand Mullins is apparently a pretty big fan of director Rob Reiner’s 1987 comedy The Princess Bride . During his trip to New Zealand over the weekend, Mullins decided to wear a shirt featuring one of the film’s iconic catchphrases.
According to Cinema Blend , the flight staff informed Mullins that his attire was instilling fear into his fellow passengers. One attendant told Wynand that wearing a shirt sporting the quote was inappropriate since it was essentially terrifying others on-board the flight.
The man’s T-shirt read: “”Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Stuff reports that Mullins received quite a few odd looks while waiting in line to board the plane. However, the reaction he received once he had located his seat was, in his opinion, a bit “over the top.”
The Princess Bride fan explained:
“The flight attendant said to me: ‘Are you able to remove it because some of the passengers are quite intimidated by it’. I thought it was all a bit silly. The person next to me was laughing, because they knew the movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if [the flight staff] had someone watching me the whole time.”
Since Mullins didn’t have another shirt to wear in place of the one that was terrifying the other passengers, the attendant said she would find something else to take its place. However, he explained that the staff never approached him again regarding his attire.
This isn’t the first time a T-shirt has caused disruption on a flight. According to Info Wars , a couple was reportedly booted from a Delta Airlines flight over an anti-TSA shirt that allegedly made the other passenger “uncomfortable.”
