Prince George may still be a few weeks shy of his first birthday, but he’s already topping best-dressed lists. Despite the frequent snaps of the stylish tot looking grumpy-faced, he nonetheless beat out his mum Kate Middleton in an online poll commissioned by My1stYears.com.
In a survey of 600 online shoppers , the third-in-line to the throne was named most stylish royal by 23 percent of participants. Kate Middleton was in second place with 21 percent, and Queen Elizabeth II came in third with 18 percent.
The fact that the toddler prince took top spot came as a surprise to the staff at My1stYears. As Hello! magazine reports, however, the site has noticed his popularity leads to a spike in sales: “Just as we saw the ‘Kate effect’, we have witnessed in the last few months the ‘George effect’, where anything he is seen wearing sells out within hours.”
When Kate is spotted out with her darling boy, media-watchers take note not only of his behavior and demeanor, but his fashion style as well. Upon the conclusion of the royal family’s tour of Australia in April, the International Business Times took pains to describe the Prince as “always playful and smiling,” but noted that he looked a little “disgruntled” to be leaving.
The Times then went on to describe the fashion choice of the youngest royal as Kate carried him during their departure:
“Dressed in a striking red cardigan, white shirt, red and white pinstripe shorts, white socks and black shoes, the nine-month-old George once again stole the spotlight.”
The poll also singled out Princess Beatrice and Prince Harry, who got the fourth and fifth spots. They were followed by Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Prince George’s papa, Prince William, came in seventh. Camilla Parker Bowles, Princess Eugenie and Zara Phillips rounded out the top 10.
Shopper reaction to the poll was mixed. As Hello! reports, one participant said she was glad to see The Queen singled out for her dignified but striking sense of style: “What is nice about the Queen’s fashion is that she is not afraid to wear bright bold colours. Too often when women reach a certain age, they only seem to wear bland, washed out colours.”
It has been almost a year since Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their first child. Prince George will celebrate his first birthday on July 22, 2014. Style-watchers will take note of his new birthday suit.
