Penelope Cruz is all set to be the next Bond girl.
The award-winning actress has been tapped to star in James Bond 24 for MGM. Unfortunately, that’s all of the information you’re going to get for the moment. Since the script is still in the works, her character and how she fits into the story have yet to be revealed.
If everything falls into place and Cruz takes the role, then she will be the oldest Bond girl to-date. When filming begins next summer, the actress will be 40 years old .
Although production is still about 12 months away, rumors about the project have been circulating quite a bit over the past few weeks. However, Penelope Cruz and Daniel Craig’s involvement is pretty much the only thing that’s concrete as of this writing.
Numerous reports have surfaced regarding who will helm the next installment of the James Bond franchise. Although Nicolas Winding Refn and Christopher Nolan were rumored to be involved with the project at one point, it would appear that Skyfall director Sam Mendes is seriously considering a return to the franchise.
The filmmaker previously stated that he was simply too physically and emotionally exhausted to take on another installment in the series. After other names were tossed around, reports surfaced that Mendes was thinking about coming back for another go-around .
Not only will he tackle James Bond 24 , word on the street is that Sam Mendes will also spearhead James Bond 25 . That’s a lot of work for someone who was completely drained following the completion of Skyfall .
“I felt like everything I wanted to with a Bond movie, I put into this film. So I would have to be convinced that I could do something that I loved and cared about as much if I was to do it again. I think the great risk of repeating oneself is that one doesn’t have the great store of ideas that you have when you first tackle a project,” the director previously explained.
The next James Bond flick is expected to start shooting next summer. The studio hopes to have everything in the can and on the big screen by 2016.
