She may be the star of the hit Starz series Outlander , but Caitriona Balfe shared just how she prepared for her at times racy role by being a model for Victoria’s Secret.

Balfe, who plays the Claire in the novel-turned-TV series, has no problem with all the nudity required of her, and it’s all because of her career in modeling for Victoria’s Secret.

The Irish actress told the New York Post , “ You’ll probably find most models are incredibly insecure about their bodies, but maybe some of my background prepared me . I’m so used to stripping off in a room of 30 people … and I think the fact that I’m out of my 20s helps. I’m just much more sure of who I am.”

Balfe modeled not only for Victoria’s Secret but also Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen.

The 35-year-old actress and former model walked for Victoria’s Secret show back in 2002 wearing “a rather scandalous lace teddy with ribbon adornments and long, flowing sleeves…we feel like Jamie would love this on Claire,” according to People .

People added, “The 10 new Angels could definitely take some pointers from Balfe.”

When speaking of her time as a Victoria’s Secret model, Balfe told Access Hollywood , “ Most of the girls who do it are Brazilian bombshells and all very tanned and va va voom, and I think I was a sort of a pasty, pale little Irish girl, but it was really fun …. It was a huge kind of extravaganza…but it was also a bit nerve wracking because I wasn’t used to kind of walking down the runway in just small lingerie so…”

So now that she has moved on from modeling for Victoria’s Secret, how does she feel about it all?

“A career based entirely on your looks, when designers and agents make very snap judgements, can be really crushing,” Balfe told Goss.Ie

Balfe added, “It’s a weird thing to be dismissed because of aesthetic. It can be quite cruel.”

Balfe admitted that while modeling for Victoria’s Secret and other lines helped prepare her for roles, she really wouldn’t return.

Balfe told People , “I loved it most whenever I felt I had an opportunity to inhabit a character. I guess I always leaned to the theatrical…Modeling wasn’t really my passion.”

Balfe, the only Irish model to ever walk for Victoria’s Secret, spent 10 years modeling before making her move to Los Angeles to pursue acting full time.
