Nicole Kidman Gets Creepy In The First Trailer For Park Chan-wook’s ‘Stoker’

Nicole Kidman is up to some sneaky business in Oldboy director Park Chan-wook’s upcoming horror thriller Stoker . The first trailer for the film is very impressive, powered by what appears to be a very intense and commanding performance from the To Die For star. Audience will get an opportunity to see if the movie delivers the promised goods when it arrives in theaters next year.

As his fans will quickly tell you, Park’s films do not shy away from grisly violence and unsettling situations. Although the premise for Stoker suggests that something dark and sinister is going down — Nicole Kidman appears particularly mean-spirited as Evelyn Stoker — the trailer doesn’t give much away. Instead, it plays on the story’s atmosphere, which, judging from the embedded clip, is as dreary and foreboding as they come.

Internet Movie Data describes the feature as follows:

“India Stoker was not prepared to lose her father and best friend Richard in a tragic auto accident. The solitude of her woodsy family estate, the peace of her tranquil town, and the unspoken somberness of her home life are suddenly upended by not only this mysterious accident, but by the sudden arrival of her Uncle Charlie, whom she never knew existed. When Charlie moves in with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evie, India thinks the void left by her father’s death is finally being filled by his closet bloodline. Soon after his arrival, India comes to suspect that this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives. Yet instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless young woman becomes increasingly infatuated with him.”

In addition to Nicole Kidman, Park Chan-wook’s Stoker stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goodie, and Dermot Mulroney. Fox Searchlight Pictures will give the movie a limited release on March 1, 2013. The trailer for the film has been embedded below.
