New Video Game Releases For The Week Of January 18, 2015

The titles keep spilling out for Sony this week as the PlayStation continues to dominate the new video game releases for the week of January 18, 2015. The PlayStation platform holds 4 exclusives out of the 9 console releases this week, with the remained divvied up between Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS and Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Tactical card based games are continuing to grow in popularity on gaming systems thanks to entires like Blizzard’s Hearthstone. Ironclad Tactics continues the trend with a unique setting of co-op and competitive game modes in the Civil War (or War of Northern Aggression, if you live in the South). The twist is that instead of rifles and cannon, you fight with steam powered robots. While I’m fairly sure Major General Sherman did not have any robots in his historic March to the Sea, the game is set in an alternate history Civil War and the narrative is delivered through an in-game graphic novel. The title is currently available on Steam and the Humble Store, but it will be launching on January 20 for the PlayStation 4.

Citizens of Earth is another new video game release worth taking a look at this week, as it has been frequently compared to 2 games which have a lot of cache with gamers: Earthbound and Little King’s Story. As the player, you take control of the Vice President of the World, who still lives with his mother and sleeps in his blue pin stripe suit. The game play involves you putting that good delegation power to work by recruiting people around your home town, starting with your brother, to help solve the very odd things that are happening around town. Battling mutants, overthrowing the government, snorkeling for buried treasure, and suspiciously bold coffee are all promised components of the game and will release on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita as well as the Wii U, 3DS, and PC.
