Those who left the theater after their first Inside Out experience wanting more, will soon have it with a new short that reveals Riley’s first date — or something like that.
The short is meant to be included as a special bonus with the release of the film on DVD and Blu-ray, in just a couple of months.
Riley’s First Date? (the question mark is intentional) will follow the classic structure of other Disney Pixar shorts to show a closer look at what the future has in store for Riley, and another young boy that made a short cameo debut at the end of the film.
Without spoiling all of the surprises, it involves the skater boy at the end of the film showing up at Riley’s house to invite her to a get-together at the skate park, and her parents’ internal thoughts go wild.
Dad becomes overprotective, Mom tries the “best friend” angle to try to get some details, and Riley reacts with utter Disgust. Check out a teaser clip here .
As you’ll see from the clip, it’s just as insanely clever, heartwarming, and funny as the full-length film, and it’s sure to only increase the quickly growing legacy of the newest Disney Pixar film.
Inside Out continues to impress, even without the short’s help. It’s grossed more than $600 million since its debut in theaters, and many are already imagining a sequel, which is rumored to be in the works. This milestone makes it the seventh Pixar film to pass the iconic $600 million mark.
It also has a 98 percent Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes , which is a very difficult feat, indeed. The critic consensus on the site are high.
“Inventive, gorgeously animated, and powerfully moving, Inside Out is another outstanding addition to the Pixar library of modern animated classics.”
They also have 90 percent audience score, another impressive feat for the film.
The short clip is expected to function the same way that Tangled Ever After, and Frozen Fever did as a bonus with the release of the films. These extra clips were also shown at the beginning of other Disney films.
Though the shorts weren’t received nearly as well as the original film, fans of the fictional worlds were thrilled at the extras, and this Inside Out short is expected to have a similar reaction.
The film is still in theaters, but fans can expect to view the new Inside Out short of Riley’s First Date with the digital HD release October 13, and the DVD and Blu-ray release on November 3.
