The creators of House of Cards might think Season 2 will be the end for them , but Netflix bosses are interested in keeping the show on for a lot longer than that.

Rick Cleveland, an executive producer on the Netflix original, stunned the show’s fans when he said that the upcoming Season 2 would likely be the last.

“ House of Cards is only going to go a second season and I think that’s it,” he told Gold Derby , citing the difficulty of maintaining such a high-profile cast.

“Kevin Spacey likes to do movies and Robin Wright likes to do movies,” he said.

The show’s creator, Beau Willimon, definitely envisions more than two seasons. When asked on Twitter what his favorite moment from the U.K. show House of Cards is based on, he said that it’s hopefully “one I’ll write many seasons from now!

Though we haven’t yet heard from the show’s stars, Netflix execs fall on Willimon’s side and are hoping for more than two seasons. In fact, they’re working something out right now.

Netflix’s Ted Sarandos told Deadline : “Our intent is that the show keep going for sure. It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons.”

Season 2 of House of Cards is currently in production. If Netflix’s plans are anything to go by, it won’t likely be the last.

House of Cards is based on a novel trilogy written by British Conservative politician Michael Dobbs. It was first adapted into three serials for the BBC in 1990. Each serial rant in four parts (or episodes), and they were each named for the novel on which they were based: House of Cards , To Play the King and The Final Cut.
