Cass Technical High School star quarterback Jayru Campbell allegedly body slammed a security guard at the school, an altercation which was caught on cell phone video. See embed below.

The highly recruited Campbell, a junior, has already verbally committed to play college football for the Michigan State University Spartans. He led the Detroit high school to the Michigan state championship as a freshman and sophomore.

A Detroit public school official official made this statement today about the incident allegedly involving Jayru Campbell: “Cass Technical High School student Jayru Campbell was arrested yesterday and changed with assault and battery based on an incident that took place inside the school at dismissal time. Detroit Public Schools Police Department is investigating and additionally the district’s Student Code of Conduct process will determine the infraction and the appropriate disciplinary actions.” The charge is apparently a misdemeanor.

The security guard received treatment at a local clinic and then went home. The full extent of his injuries, if any, are undetermined.

According to the Bleacher Report , “There’s no information yet to provide any sort of context as to why Campbell and the guard were involved in a physical altercation, but the grainy cell phone video shows the guard getting picked up in the air and thrown to the ground with a very audible thud.”

The quarterback is scheduled to serve a one-game suspension at the beginning of the 2014 season for reportedly throwing a punch at an opposing player in November after a Cass loss.

As far as the status of Campbell’s potential college football scholarship , “John Lewandowski, MSU Associate Athletics Director for Communications, says the NCAA prohibits any institution from commenting about specific prospects until they have signed a national letter of intent.”
