Michelle Obama’s plan to release a rap album in her continuing battle against obesity is either the lamest or most genius thing we’ve ever heard of.

Politico reports that the First Lady is teaming up with big names in the hip hop industry to collaborate on a rap album inspired by her Let’s Move! campaign. It is expected to be released next month.

The album will be called “Songs for a Healthier America,” and will feature cameos (without singing, curiously) by Michelle and others like Jordin Sparks, Ashanti , Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh and Monifah.

The album will have a whopping 19-song track list with track titles including “U R What You Eat” and “Veggie Luv.” It will be released by the Partnership for a Healthier America, an independent label spawned by the Let’s Move! campaign.

It gets better! Ten music videos will also be released with the album and will be distributed in New York schools before being brought to other major cities.

Okay, Iv’e decided. This is the lamest thing I’ve ever heard. And I’m not the only one.

Kevin Fallon of The Daily Beast calls Michelle Obama’s rap album “embarassing,” and “absolutely ridiculous.”

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report noted that New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert will also be performing on the album, dryly noting: “Once this sets in and you realize it’s actually happening, you’re obligated to make a joke or 10.”

Of course, Michelle Obama’s continuing efforts to combat obesity are laudable, but history has shown time and time again that kids are smarter than pop culture-infused political propaganda, and usually reject it.

Find a better way, Lady O! At least find something with more subtlety than this.

What do you think of Michelle Obama’s rap album? Good idea, or trainwreck in the making?
