Although he’s slated to produce and star in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, Michael Fassbender recently admitted that he’s never actually played the video game.

While promoting his latest cinematic effort The Counselor , the acclaimed actor revealed that he’s not very familiar with the source material for the upcoming adaptation. However, this isn’t stopping him from tackling the lead role in the project.

“[‘Assassin’s Creed’ is] definitely happening. We’re just developing the script at the moment. I’d heard of it but had never played the game. I don’t have a video game player… that’s not what they’re called,” Michael Fassbender recently explained to The Daily Beast .

He added, “I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting — the idea of reliving memories.”

The Inquisitr previously reported that the adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit franchise will arrive in theaters at some point during 2015 . For that to actually happen, Michael Fassbender and English playwright Michael Lesslie need to get to work as soon as possible.

Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet said earlier this year that he was extremely excited about the Assassin’s Creed movie.

“Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that ‘Assassin’s Creed’ will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise,” he explained.

According to MovieWeb , Michael Fassbender will star as a man who must travel back through time to steal ancient artifacts. The movie will reportedly take several cues from the very first Assassin’s Creed video game.

While they’re waiting for the project to take shape, fans of the series can check out Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag . The game hits retail shelves on October 29.

Are you a fan of Michael Fassbender? Do you think the award-winning actor should play Assassin’s Creed before he starts filming the movie?
