Leave it to Mena Suvari to make a fashion statement. The actress caught everyone’s eye with a revealing bra top at the launch of the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection in New York City on Tuesday night.
Perez calls this little number a “trompe l’oeil bra-print top,” drawing comparisons with some of Miley Cyrus’ more dubious duds. I think we’ll stick to “bra shirt thing,” a much more boorish, but we think accurate, explanation of the top.
“And as if here blouse wasn’t wild enough, she paired it with a layered navy blue skirt, nude perspex heels and um, is that a clutch made from an enormous gum wrapper??? We’re so confuzzled right now!!!”
Don’t be “confuzzled,” Perez. After all, Suvari has made stand-out impressions during fashion debuts and red carpet moments past. In June, the American Pie beauty appeared at the AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards in a black dress that simply defied scientific explanation. The dress top was a black bustier – correction – half of a black bustier held to Suvari’s body by a combination of magic, prayer, and a roll of double tape.
The “bra shirt thing” isn’t as sexy as the half-bustier of the summer, but hey. The double-take is what Suvari wanted, and the double-take is what Suvari got.
