Lye attack victim Carmen Tarleton is preparing to release her book Overcome: Burned, Blinded and Blessed next year, according to the Associated Press .
Although Tarleton is still undergoing surgeries to help repair the damage done to her body by her husband over five years ago, the lye attack victim has found the time to tell her story to the masses. Tarleton hopes the book will find its way into the hands of abuse victims.
“I think I can help a whole bunch of people, not just domestic violence people,” the 44-year-old woman explained. “I think I can help a whole bunch of people wherever you are in your life.”
Tarleton also revealed that she’s much happier than she was prior to the attack. “I’m so much more blessed than I was then,” she said.
According to the Daily Mail , Carmen Tarleton’s estranged husband broke into her home with the intent of assaulting his wife back in 2007. During the attack, the Vermont woman was hit repeatedly with a baseball bat. She suffered a fractured eye socket and a broken arm as a result.
Her husband’s final act that day was to pour an industrial strength chemical all over her body. The lye attack victim has had numerous surgeries over the years to repair the damage.
Herbert Rodgers, Tarleton’s ex-husband, is currently serving a 30 year sentence for the vicious attack. Although most people would hold a permanent grudge against such an individual, Carmen is trying her best to let go of the anger.
“That’s where I feel people get stuck because we don’t have a segment of our society that says just because this terrible thing happened to you it doesn’t have to ruin the rest of your life,” she explained. “And I want to be the example of that because it doesn’t.”
