Famous country singer Luke Bryan decided to cancel his CMT Artist of the Year appearance after learning his brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, passed away at the age of 46.
According to E! Bryan was an important part of his brother-in-law’s funeral ceremony, as it’s believed that he’s co-officiating the whole thing.
Luke’s brother-in-law’s passing was already upsetting, but it’s one that’s incredibly significant. Ben Lee Cheshire was the widower of Bryan’s sister Kelly, who died back in 2007 at the age of 39. Ben and Kelly have three children, Jordan, Chris and Til.
Back in 2013 Luke Bryan opened up to 20/20 about the death of his brother and sister, and how it affected him.
“My older brother, Chris, was unexpectedly killed in a… car accident. I’m kind of hyperventilating talking about it…. You never truly… move beyond it.”
Luke’s sister, Kelly, organized a gathering of people at an early performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Days later Kelly was found dead in her home. Her death remains a mystery to this day.
“My only older siblings… gone from the world, in a flash in two, two different, crazy, tragic manners, that… we’ll never know, and never understand. You can lean on friends and family through it… and you can get back life.”
He continued, “If me telling my story moves people down a positive path of hope and getting up out of the bed and getting back going, then, you know, it’s certainly worth telling.”
Now that Luke Bryan is going through yet another death close to heart, fans and professionals are coming out to show their support and condolences.
