Louisiana Second Grader Tells Michelle Obama: ‘You Have Ruined Taco Tuesday’

First Lady Michelle Obama’s goal to help make the children of the United States eat healthier has been met with mixed reactions. Some are more than fine with it and think the food tastes great and is good for you. Others are not thrilled with it and that includes a second grader in Louisiana who let her know that she ruined Taco Tuesday.

Richard “Trip” Klibert, 7, is from LaPlace, Louisiana, became upset last November when he noticed changes happening at St. Joan of Arc School. N OLA reports that the school cafeteria began serving wheat tortillas and pizza crust, and Trip simply wasn’t fond of them.

At first, Trip let his second grade teacher, Margaret Cerami, know how upset he was about the changes. She told him to read up more on the changes happening in the lunch room and then try writing to the person that made the changes – Michelle Obama .

Trip went home, learned more about the new lunch program, spoke with his parents, and wrote a handwritten letter to Michelle Obama.

Dear Mrs. Obama,

Thank you for trying to make my school lunch better, but you have ruined Taco Tuesday. Please bring back the old taco shell. I miss them. Also, the pizza is terrible. If you would like to try the new tacos, I will buy you lunch.

Thank you,

Trip Klibert

The letter made it’s way from Louisiana all the way to the White House and to Michelle Obama herself. She did not take up Trip on his request to join her for lunch, but as Free Beacon reported, she did respond to him and with a letter of her own .

“In Obama’s letter, she explained that new child nutrition regulations were implemented as part of her ‘Let’s Move!’ initiative started in 2010 to reduce childhood obesity. The new regulations took effect in 2012 with the goal of including more whole grains, vegetables and fruits in school meals while reducing fat and sodium.

“She explained that she wants students nationwide to have access to healthy food in their daily lunch meals,” the report said. ‘She also acknowledged that adjusting to new things can be difficult and thanked Trip for his feedback.’”

Along with the letter was an autographed picture of the Obama family and some trading cards of the family’s dogs.

Kate Klibert, Trip’s mother, said that he was so very excited to get an actual response from the First Lady. She said that he “may prefer the old tacos and pizza over the whole grain, but now he knows the reasons behind the change.”

The young second grader from Louisiana is happier with his lunch now and more than alright with how things have changed. His letter from Michelle Obama made him realize that what Taco Tuesday has become isn’t a bad thing.
