Long-Delayed Red Dawn Remake Gets A New Poster

Director Dan Bradley’s remake of the 1984 action-drama Red Dawn may seem pointless to 80s movie aficionados, but someone over at MGM thought it was a good idea. However, due to the studio’s numerous financial woes, the movie has sat on the proverbial shelf for years. Now, it would seem, the picture is finally getting a proper theatrical release later this year.

Red Dawn , which stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Peck, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, follows the adventures of a group of youngsters who are dealing with an invasion by North Korean forces. In order to stay alive, these reluctant soldiers must learn to work through their differences to combat a common enemy. During the film’s delay, Cinema Blend reports that producers decided to change the film’s villains from Chinese to North Korean in an effort to make the picture more marketable in the country.

The original film was loaded with 80s stars including Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Grey, and Harry Dean Stanton. However, instead of squaring off against North Koreans, this motley crew was forced to contend with a Russian invasion.

In order to help generate buzz for the picture — which shouldn’t be much of a problem given Hutcherson and Hemsworth’s popularity as of late — a brand new poster has been released by the film’s marketing team, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. As far as one-sheets go, it’s not the prettiest you’ll ever encounter. It’s hard to hide bad Photoshop, and this Red Dawn poster is clearly a result of a rushed job.

Presently, the film is scheduled to arrive in North American theaters on November 21, just in time for the holiday season. Although a trailer has yet been released, one will surely pop up on entertainment websites as the picture’s theatrical bow draws near.
