A live-tweeted c-section is scheduled for Wednesday, February 20 at 7:30 am CST. The tweeted surgery will take placed at Women’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Houston’s Memorial Hermann hospital system has become a stomping ground for live-tweeted firsts. In February 2012, the hospital was the first to live-tweet an open-heart surgery. The hospital followed their first live-Twitter event with a live-tweeted brain operation.
The c-section is being performed by Obstetrician Anne Gonzalez. Dr. Gonzalez will be assisted by Dr. Amelia Chu, who will wear a GoPro head camera, which will stream a surgeon’s point-of-view to viewers.
Also participating in the live-tweeted c-section will be obstetrician and gynecologist Sherri Levin. Dr. Levin will answer questions that are sent in from viewers.

Doctors will also be providing photos and videos from the c-section via Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, and Storify.
The procedure is being live-Tweeted courtesy of a 39-year-old mom-to-be who has asked to remain anonymous.
Speaking about the live-tweeted c-section Dr Gonzalez said:
“It will allow us to pull back the curtain on the most common surgery that many women need to have in order to deliver their baby. It also will help families to prepare for their own deliveries and show them what to expect. It is an amazing honor to be involved in the most important event in this family’s life and we are thankful they are sharing their story with the public.”
