Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Stewart is suing her soon-to-be ex-husband, former NFL quarterback Kordell Stewart, for alimony.
The 40-year-old former football player, who played 11 seasons in the NFL from 1995 to 2005, “blindsided” the reality star, who didn’t find out that her husband had filed for divorce until she read a report on the Internet . Court papers show that Stewart filed for divorce on March 22, saying that the marriage was “ irretrievably broken .” Porsha Stewart was blissfully unaware of the filing and tweeted on March 24 that “a marriage can last forever when two people decide to remain as one and conquer trials tribulations together.”
A representative for Porsha Stewart, nee Williams, said she was disappointed and had held off on filing her own divorce papers because she was committed to the marriage. She also said Stewart had promised that he would work on the marriage with her, but he misled her and filed for divorce anyway.
Now the real housewife, who is the granddaughter of civil rights leader Hosea Williams, has filed an official response to Stewart’s divorce documents, stating that he should pay alimony because she quit her job and sold her business in order to take care of Stewart’s son, Syre, from a previous relationship. She also requested exclusive use of the couple’s home in Buckhead, Atlanta.
Stewart is claiming that his wife of less than two years doesn’t need alimony because she can earn her own money. He wrote, “[She’s] an able-bodied person, earning income and is capable of supporting herself.” He is also claiming that there are no assets to be divided and suggested that a prenup had been signed .
Kordell and Porsha Stewart were married on May 21, 2011. Their wedding was featured on We TV’s Platinum Weddings .
