You remember that Kitchen Nightmares couple, Samy and Amy Bouzaglo of Amy’s Baking Company? Of course you do. It was the story all week . You couldn’t get away from it if you wanted to.
They’ve decided to cancel their planned press conference during which they pledged to tell their side of the story.
The fallout from their appearance on Kitchen Nightmares was somehow worse than their portrayal on the show, which famously saw Chef Gordon Ramsay walk out for the first time… well… ever.
After the bizarre Amy’s Baking Company episode , the owners seemingly had a complete meltdown on their Facebook page.
They spewed vitriol in every direction, angry over their portrayal on the popular program and the new wave of criticism they had received (oh yes, they’ve been in the press for the wrong reasons before ).
Then suddenly, on May 15, their Facebook page showed a fairly concise statement declaring that Amy’s Baking Company would re-open for a special event on May 21 (today) which would include a press conference.
There, Samy and Amy Bouzaglo would tell their side of the story and answer questions about their unflattering portrayal on Kitchen Nightmares .
They would also explain how their Facebook and other social media handles were compromised, hence the strange online meltdown following the episode.
But now none of that is happening.
Why?
Interestingly, Amy’s Baking Company hired a PR firm to help them sort out their public image problem. You can see their influence in that well-tailored May 15 post on their Facebook page – any inquiries about the grand re-opening as well as reservations were to be sent to [email protected].
That long domain belongs to Rose+Moser+Allyn Public & Online Relations. They no longer represent the couple.
Details are still sketchy, and indeed, we may never know the full truth. But Samy and Amy Bouzaglo were reportedly threatened by Kitchen Nightmares lawyers not to bad-mouth Gordon Ramsay’s show … or else.
Is this intimidation? Does this mean that Amy’s Baking Company’s unflattering portrayal isn’t entirely their fault, but also a product of manipulative editing and/or production?
Possibly, but probably not. You see, they signed a very strict disparagement clause before the cameras ever started rolling. Basically, if the Bouzaglos say anything bad about the show, they could be fined $100,000 each .
I’d say that it does indeed smell fishy, because what does Kitchen Nightmares really have to fear from Amy’s Baking Company? But their PR firm left them too, just like Ramsay. Did they come to similar conclusions about the Bouzaglos? Can these people just not be helped?
It sure seems that way.
