The inevitable happened: Kim Kardashian has realized that people make fun of her. We’re not exactly sure when Kim realized she was the center of one of the most popular Saturday Night Live sketches, but we’re betting it happened at the VMAs watching SNL cast mate Jay Pharoah do his Kanye West impersonation.
For those that aren’t in the know, there’s a running sketch called “Waking Up with Kimye,” a fictional daytime talk show featuring Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. On the show, Kanye West talks about everything from fashion to his love for his girl.
In one episode Jay Pharoah’s West enthusiastically interviews an Apple employee, played by Lady Gaga. While Pharoah rambles on about everything under the sun, former cast mate Nasim Pedrad nasally adds dimwitted responses as Kim Kardashian.
While promoting her new show Mulaney , Pedrad spoke to Conan O’Brien about an encounter with Kim Kardashian. Although Kardashian was “really sweet,” she did have one concern.
Kardashian wanted to know if that nasally high-pitched nails on a chalkboard voice is what she actually sounds like in real life.
“She was understandably mortified to discover that I played her on the show,” Pedrad added. “And she did say at one point, ‘Do we really sound like that?’… I was like, ‘No,’ and she just goes [in her Kardashian impression voice], ‘Oh good.’ She was so sweet.”
Although Kardashian was “mortified,” according to Pedrad, she looked great.
“First of all, she was in pristine, airbrushed makeup. Like perfect hair. And that day I looked like a person who woke up in a dumpster. Like I hadn’t slept in two days.”
Let’s face it — her husband Kanye West probably picked out her whole wardrobe when she met the former SNL cast mate.
That said, not everyone is a fan of Waking Up with Kimye . According to The Inquisitr , West went after Jay Pharoah for his impersonation at the VMAs.
In a rant during his American Festival concert in Philadelphia, the rapper said, “They want to make a joke out of how hard we work. It’s fine and all funny and everything, but don’t distract from our vision. It’s not a joke what we do up here. This music that we do is not a joke. What we do culturally is not a joke.”
Kanye admitted to the pumped up crowd that he reached out to Jay Pharoah right after the awards show.
“I said, ‘I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position’… So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going onstage spoofing the people that’s working hard, and helping the next man out.”
