During the recent pro-life March For Life 2016, Kelsey Grammer’s wife, Kayte Walsh, joined him for the annual Washington D.C. event that protests the 1973 Roe V Wade Supreme Court decision which defined U.S. abortion laws as we now know them today. The Frasier actor is well known for being pro-life in Hollywood, so his attendance was remarked upon in multiple reports of the event.
“I don’t tend to warm too well to people that tell me how I’m supposed to think. So, my life in Hollywood — I’m afraid I was destined to be a Republican,” he said back in 2011.
In fact, Grammer is not above generating controversy over abortion. This past fall, the Instagram page for the husband and wife featured Grammer wearing a T-shirt which linked gun violence and abortions because it said, “Would it bother us more if they used guns?”
The pro-life T-shirt was designed by a non-profit Christian organization call Abort73, which explained the message behind the anti-abortion T-shirt worn by Kelsey Grammer.
“This is not a shirt about gun control. It’s simply a response to the fact that when children are the victims of gun violence, the world is outraged. When children are the victims of abortion violence, the world barely notices.”
The pro-life March For Life protest intends to make certain the world notices America’s abortion laws. The website explains that the demonstration is intended to provide “a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, legalized abortion on demand.”
“The mission of the March for Life is to provide all Americans with a place to testify to the beauty of life and the dignity of each human person. Both in January, on the anniversary of legalized abortion in the US, and throughout the year we bring together pro-life leaders and groups to organize, unite and strategize around a common message, and to communicate this message to the government, the media and the nation in a way that is powerful and life affirming.”
Photos show that the event drew thousands of attendees and the greens surrounding the Washington Monument seemed quite crowded. The event also took to the streets, with many groups holding large banners or signs while braving the cold weather brought to Washington, D.C. by the recent winter storms.
“We’re here with thousands and thousands of people marching to protect life, to make sure that we recognize the value of every single life,” said U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren. “We’ve been doing this for 40 years because we believe one day we will have leaders and a society that again embraces the value of all of life.”

The presence of a “Hollywood superstar” such as Kelsey Grammer and his wife was celebrated by many on social media, although reports do not indicate whether Grammer spoke publicly at all. In response to the Roe V Wade anniversary, President Obama released this statement on the White House Tumblr account.
“Today, we mark the 43rd anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade, which affirmed a woman’s freedom to make her own choices about her body and her health,” said Obama. “The decision supports the broader principle that the government should not intrude on private decisions made between a woman and her doctor. As we commemorate this day, we also redouble our commitment to protecting these constitutional rights, including protecting a woman’s access to safe, affordable health care and her right to reproductive freedom from efforts to undermine or overturn them. In America, every single one of us deserves the rights, freedoms, and opportunities to fulfill our dreams.”
