Kelly Rowland and her estranged father Christopher Lovett may be reunited in the near future.
Lovett, who has not seen his daughter in decades, recently said that he wants to reunite with his daughter before he gets too old.
Lovett told Star Magazine: “So many previous years have passed and I’m getting old. I just pray she comes back into my life before it’s too late.”
The Daily Mail reports that Kelly Rowland’s mother left Lovett when the Destiny’s Child singer was about 7-years-old. Lovett was an alcoholic at the time and reportedly had a pretty bad temper. Lovett isn’t drinking anymore and he hopes to reconcile with his daughter “before it’s too late.”
Lovett said: “I couldn’t control it. I hoped I could make it up to her. But I’m still waiting for that day.”
Lovett said that he’s been trying to contact his daughter but that he hasn’t had much success. The singer is currently seeing a resurgence in popularity due to Beyonce’s re-connection with Destiny’s Child and Lovett said that his daughter as a successful woman.
Lovett said: “Whenever [Destiny’s Child] was on the cover of a magazine, I would call and beg them to tell her I was looking for her.”
But that doesn’t mean that all hope is lost. After all, Rowland has said in the past that she would be interested in meeting her father again.
The 32-year-old singer said: “I do have a desire to speak to him. But I have to be ready when I make that decision, and I don’t want to hurry myself. I’ve been without him for more than 20 years.”
