Breaking up via text message isn’t just for 6th graders. According to Katy Perry, her ex-husband Russell Brand broke the news about his divorce papers with a simple text message.
Perry said that she hasn’t talked to Brand since he texted her about the divorce on December 31, 2011 .
Perry said: “He’s a very smart man, a magical man and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
Perry didn’t give a specific reason for the divorce but she did say that she was partly to blame for the split.
The singer said : “I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road. I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but when they get that equal they’re like, ‘I can’t handle it.’ ”
Perry, who covers the latest issue of Vogue, said that she was also angry at Brand when she found out that he was making fun of her during his shows.
Perry said: “He started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience. Because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows.”
Since her divorce to Brand, Perry has had an on / off relationship with John Mayer .
Perry said : “Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds.”
