The Marvel Universe has a lot of fierce ladies in its cast of characters. And Katheryn Winnick, who is plenty fierce on Vikings , may be the next Carol Danvers in an upcoming all-female Captain Marvel movie.
Winnick, who plays Lagertha in Vikings , has been picked by Marvel fans to play Danvers. The superhero was the first Ms. Marvel in her own series of comic books before she fell in with the X-Men and the Avengers. In an interview with IGN , Winnick said she was all for taking on the role.
“I would love to. Oh wow, there’s so many. I’m such a fan of comic books. I grew up reading them. They were my idols. Like, these characters came to life for me! I don’t think there’s one in particular, either than I would love to play an action hero.”
But the actress put a slight damper on fan’s hopes for her incarnation as the superhero. As Lagertha, Katheryn told the site that she already gets to “kick a** and get to deal real human emotion.” Adding some Captain Marvel action into the mix may be a bit too much, Cinema Blend reported.
That didn’t stop Winnick from posting some fan art of herself in a Captain Marvel costume .

Winnick has some stiff competition — she’ll have to vie with plenty of other actresses who’ve been named as potential contenders for the Danvers role, including Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, and Natalie Dormer . Only time will tell.
