Johnny Depp has revealed that he is blind in one eye and that he can only see a few inches in front of his face when he isn’t wearing glasses.
The 50-year-old actor was talking to Rolling Stone about his vision problems, stating that he is blind in his left eye and that he is near-sighted in his right.
Depp stated, “Everything is just very, very blurry. I’ve never had proper vision.” He also talked about the problems he has not having anonymity, noting, “Going somewhere where you don’t have to be on the run or sneak in through the kitchen or the underground labyrinth of the hotel.”
He went on to add, “At a certain point, when you get old enough or get a few brain cells back, you realize that, on some level, you lived a life of a fugitive.”
Depp also found time to discuss the demise of his relationship with Vanessa Paradis , who he dated for 14 years, stating, “The last couple years have been a bit bumpy. At times, certainly unpleasant, but that’s the nature of break-ups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved.”
He then added, “Relationships are very difficult, especially in the racket that I’m in because you’re constantly away or they’re away and so it’s hard. It wasn’t easy on her. It wasn’t easy on me. It wasn’t easy on the kids.”
Depp also noted that, “It doesn’t stop the fact that you care for that person, and they’re the mother of your kids, and you’ll always know each other, and you’re always going to be in each other’s lives because of those kids. You might as well make the best of it.”
Whilst he has tried to hide the public limelight from his two children, stating, “You can’t shield them, because then you’d be lying. So you can at least be honest with your kids, and you say the absolute truth to your child — that was very important to not pussyfoot around.”
