Actress Jessica Chastain has dropped out of several Broadway performances of “The Heiress” in order support the critically-lauded film Zero Dark Thirty through awards season.
Chastain is currently performing the role of Catherine Sloper in the Broadway revival of “The Heiress ,” but will miss three performances of the Broadway production in to attend ceremonies for each of various awards she has been nominated for thanks to her performance in Zero Dark Thirty .
She has been nominated for a Golden Globe, Critic’s Choice, SAG Award, and the coveted Academy Award for her performance in the controversial Kathryn Bigelow film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
Playbill reports that Mairin Lee will perform the role of Catherine Sloper on the three dates that Chastain will miss the show. Chastain made the announcement via her Facebook page:
“I wanted to give you all a heads up regarding the schedule for The Heiress – I will NOT be performing January 10th, 13th, and 27th, I’ll be supporting Zero Dark Thirty at the Critic’s Choice, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards.
“My fantastic understudy will perform the role of Catherine. If you’ve bought tickets for those dates, the theatre will exchange them for you. Sorry if this inconveniences anyone. Much love.”
Chastain is scheduled to perform in “The Heiress” until February. They play marks the Broadway debut of the actress, and the LA Times noted that she received mostly good reviews for her portrayal of Catherine Sloper.
Zero Dark Thirty has been nominated for for four Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director.
