Jermaine Jackson is a Jackson no more.
The pop singer and former member of the Jackson 5 officially changed his surname to “Jacksun” on Friday, February 22, when a Los Angeles judge gave final approval, according to a report from The Associated Press .
The Inquisitr first reported of Jacksun’s interest in the name change in November 2012. At the time, Jacksun cited “artistic reasons” for the decision, an assertion he maintained on Friday.
In August, Jacksun expressed regret for Jackson family turmoil over his brother Michael’s estate and the care of his mother, The Toronto Star reported.
Jacksun has continued to insist the troubles have nothing to do with the decision to change his name.
The family turmoil to which Jermaine Jacksun was referring occured at the home of 82-year-old matriarch Katherine Jackson.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore revealed in July 2012 that “a physical altercation had occurred of misdemeanor battery.”
“It involved members of the Jackson family. A report was taken. No arrests were made, and the investigation is ongoing,” Whitmore said.
Speaking to The Toronto Star in August 2012, Jacksun said he regretted “that events were ever allowed to reach such a stage” and called for the family to “live by Michael’s words about love not war.”
